I know those are harsh words, but let's break down this story and see if you may agree with me:ġ. But this story was just plain stupid and I simply hated it. With that out of the way, let me say that I normally love Cardeno C's stories. Never! I was a victim throughout my junior high and high school years, and there is no amount of empathy that I can generate for an aggressor to find them to be a sympathetic character. Let me start with a background note - under no circumstances will I ever positively review a book that attempts to glorify or justify the actions of a bully. ![]() ![]() ![]() The interior monologue harps constantly on the same few themes, especially his lack of emotions and the crippling stupidity of every living being in Miami. I found the authorial voice to not be "darkly humorous," but frequently silly and always snidely sarcastic. ![]() I recall seeing someone else comment that Darkly Dreaming Dexter needs to "show, don't tell." Dexter's interior monologue *tells* the reader about his code, and how careful he is, yet with one exception he's clumsy and messy throughout the book. The characters are two-dimensional cliches that can't tie their own shoelaces, except for the daringly deductive Dexter, who *can* tie his own shoelaces. ![]() Since a lot of other people seem to have liked it, it may just be a matter of taste, but. This story starts with the battle against the Huns on the snowy mountains when the battle takes a twist. But what those beliefs were was a mystery to me. As a Disney fan, I was aware that the Chinese Disney Parks lacked cookie cutter Haunted Mansion attractions because the theme didn’t jive with their own beliefs in the afterlife. “What if Mulan had to travel to the underworld?” That’s the question posed on the cover of Reflection and through this original tale, audiences will learn about Diyu and its eighteen levels. But in Reflection, we discover an original story that combines Mulan’s journey with Chinese mythology about the afterlife. Both of those titles involved a twist where the villain had another trick up their sleeve, such as Jafar getting ahold of the lamp in the Cave of Wonders or Maleficent having a bonus curse that nobody knew about.
